Our world is in serious trouble, for numerous reasons. You might doubt the severity of one or two, but collectively, they cannot all be downplayed and ignored.
Our government and the media should be on our side.. unfortunately, they are the opposite, and are working directly against the crisis-reality of our dire situation.
Been following this very closely for the past decade, and hate to say.. but the likelihood is that we have VERY little time remaining to act.. and even what we might do, might only be prolonging the inevitable.
But try we must!! Turn our backs and just move on is only an option for those that just don't G-A-S !!! If you're looking to care at all.. then join those out there now beginning to scream to enact change:

NUCLEAR WEAPONS
When I was a kid.. this was a HUGE deal.. vividly remember diving under the desks at school whenever tests of the outdoor street sirens went off. (warning of a possible nuke attack.. like those desks were capable of holding back the building to be landing on top of us...sure.)
- and now we have almost 7.000 nukes.. and our (I-I-C) Idiot-In-Charge wants a massive increase in those numbers !!
- and the two infantile-morons eager to play 'chicken' with each other, and with the world.. with all lives on it at stake !!
- declared by both sides..a new nuclear arms race is now in the making.. led by unenlightened, belligerent leadership, once again we are testing fate.. at some point with all that keeps pushing the world in confrontational directions, seriously, how long will it be before we enter nuclear war.
- "[Brand-name] companies stand to profit from indiscriminate mass murder of civilians...[As] we grow less safe, while they cash in on chaos by banking on Armageddon."
- Time to 'Go-Green'..?? ....for the first time a U.S.-based institution called Green Century Funds, a sustainability-geared investment firm that has roughly $525 million in assets under management.. all other Green Funds are currently European based.
If you're not religious, look at it this way. The planet is four thousand, six hundred million years old... and yet our world could end in an afternoon."
The nuclear line is one you NEVER want to cross... it's saying all men have control and compassion.
OVER-POPULATION - FOOD & WATER
With the one never having gotten under control.. it is not to be too much longer, hell, it's NOW.. we're going to be running out of the others. This was another 'biggie' from childhood. Yea.. they were screaming about it even when the population was a third of what it is today.
- 8,760 species die off per year..because ya know, the 'infinite' resources are only 'infinite' when the world population leveled at around one and a half billion.. (like what's China alone today). "If the current rate of extinction continues, Homo sapiens will be one of the few life-forms left on the planet, its members scrambling violently among themselves for water, food, fossil fuels and perhaps air until they too disappear."
Water scarcity is both a natural and a human-made phenomenon. There is enough freshwater on the planet for seven billion people, but it is distributed unevenly and too much of it is wasted, polluted, and unsustainably managed.
Our cause for concern should be great. It’s easy to talk about the problem, but it’s time we start protesting the problem.
We are comfortable protesting for everything else affects our lives: guns, tax cuts, women’s rights, nuclear proliferation, and politicians we hate. Now we need to have a unified front protesting the health of our environment, before we don’t have a recognizable, safe environment left.
We are on an apocalyptic precipice, and the prognosis is not a good one.
MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX (MIC)
- In his famous farewell address to the nation in 1961, Ike warned us loud and clear. And only the MIC took notice, and while everyone else was asleep at the wheel, they took over control of the country. And don't let anyone tell you different...need proof..
- just look at our annual federal budget.. year-after-year!! (amounts going to the military are ABSOLUTELY STAGGERING!!!)
- they're loads of VERY wealthy men in the high-upper ranks of the armed forces luvin every conflict we can get ourselves into. Why all those private mercenaries now wanting in on the action...
- for all those hundreds-of-millions/billions 'go-missing' every war... WOW.. talk about a MAJOR incentive to keep the cash-cow flowing !!
- This still is a very rich nation.. but FAR TOO MUCH is going to the MIC. Military aggrandizing is harming our society.. defunding much needed social programs & benefits.. and dramatically increasing our nation's risk of war & terrorism.
..."ask yourself a simple question: What sort of war requires no sacrifice? What sort of war requires almost no one in the country waging it takes the slightest notice of it?
Overseas, the U.S. is engaged in real wars in which bombs are dropping, missiles are launched, and people (generally not Americans) are being killed, wounded, uprooted, and displaced. Yet here at home, there's nothing REAL about those wars. Here, it's phony war all the way [and the MIC is the ONLY winner!!]. In the last 17 years of "forever war," this nation hasn't for one second been mobilized. Taxes are being cut instead of raised. Wartime rationing is a faint memory from the World War II era. No one is being required to sacrifice a damn thing.
..when it comes to its wars, the government treats the people like mushrooms, keeping them in the dark and feeding them bullshit."
..we're accomplishing very little, yet wasting hundreds of billions of dollars each year on the military.. the MIC is feasting, and most of the population hardly notices... how sick is that.. and how dangerous!!
..we're bombing the crap out of growing numbers of places.. with more and more civilians being slaughtered.. we might not care.. but don't for a second think the FnF of all those killed and maimed aren't VERY.. filled with rage and wanting vengeance!!!
MAJOR WAR (& THE DRAFT)
The draft is included here as really a major item, for its elimination opened the door for the military to take over.. pretty much everything.
Their purpose and paychecks swell on conflict... they thrive on it, and should they trip over peace, they'd just soon ignore it, and keep right on fighting.
So now we're into a half-dozen MAJOR conflicts.. and they're itching to start new wars with..
- North Korea & Iran... the new 'profit-centers.'
- From all appearances, a war with Russia is also in the making.. such a conflict would not be like any of the others.. major powers with enormous weapons systems will have a hard time fighting 'limited' wars with each other.
- Unintended consequences of policies that were kept secret from the
American people. What the daily press reports as the malign acts of 'terrorists' or 'drug lords' or 'rogue states' or 'illegal arms merchants' often turn out to be blowback from earlier American operations." (another brilliant important work by Tom Engelhardt)
- We have to End-War... with so much at stake in our war-machine, until we do, solving all other issues will just be continually delayed.
- Media & Conflict.. when media 'sells' news for ratings.. stories that ratchet up intensity levels will push us in directions extremely harmful to the country.
- We need a massive united push to - END ALL THESE WARS !!! Wars that cannot be won.. wars that create more enemies than they eliminate.. wars that are boondoggles whose final costs run into the TRILLIONS of dollars..and wars that are killing & injuring enormous numbers of civilians!!!

We've never truly made a serious dent in R-M-B in this country. We talk a good game, but reality proves otherwise. We're completely ineffectual at altering the status-quo belief system.
And probably extremism should be out in its own major category, for many times in history it's been an underlying central cause of World War conflagrations.
- Today, it has taken over front-row-center.. as a U.S. President leads the extremist charge.
- White supremacists are becoming emboldened and more violent. There are millions more poor people today.. greater child poverty..more living in deep or extreme poverty.. income equality is worse and worsening.
We tackle it right now, head-on.. or it has the power to overwhelm and destroy us.
- There will be no U.S. to come to the rescue... 'civil war' has potential to be exceptionally horrendous... (HALF-BILLION GUNS OUT IN THE MARKETPLACE!!)

..some were present already, although not like the intensity levels they have reached today:
GLOBAL WARMING & CLIMATE DISRUPTION
We haven't that long left to get our act together, and the way things are now accelerating, in all probability, it might be extremely optimistic it could happen at all.
- Earth systems are so enormous and intricate, they take several decades to fully react (watch video)
- 350ppm is the safe upper CO2 limit... at near 450ppm catastrophic and irreversible change occurs..when first started watching, it was at 385ppm.. that was less than a decade ago.
- Furiously blew right past 400 on our undeterred march to 450!!! ..."The world cannot stabilize what it does not watch." The entire world is not paying anywhere near the attention it should be to climate disruption. And yet it is transforming the environment of the entire planet in ways not thought possible so soon. When we finally 'get-it'.. it's going to be WAY too late. ..."[the role of] that of Cassandra, whom the gods gave the gift of foreseeing the future, but also cursed because no one believed her."
- "..the reality of ACD and the need to work toward mitigation, anything short of a massive, global, government-coordinated, immediate, full-scale effort will not be enough to sufficiently confront the climate crisis."
And we have not yet really figured in the rise of methane gases:
- The 'methane-bomb' is real, and most likely will be the deal-breaker.. getting that genie back in the bottle requires technology we've yet to invent... and we'd need it.. FAST !!!
- Climate disruption warms the Earth and coaxes the permafrost out of its continually frozen state, a process called “browning.” The worst effect of browning is that it creates conditions even more conducive to releasing even more carbon into the air — particularly in the form of the greenhouse gas methane — which will in turn speed up the climate change process by which the permafrost melts in the first place.
- Scientists around the globe are STUNNED with the warming at the North Pole and Greenland. Daily mean temperatures across the region were comparable to those usually seen in May. February 25, at the NORTH POLE rose above freezing. February 23 saw northern Greenland at 43°F. The average high there for that month is -20°F... a 63 degree spike!!
- "an anomaly among anomalies"... for such a crisis to come at the absolute WORST time possible !!
- Enormous world-wide changes are happening.. many don't want to admit their permanence.. or that they could accelerate and get much worse. "Common climate models are underestimating the change we’re facing."
- Living like there is no tomorrow.. well there is a tomorrow, and we are living in it.
- Rising seas world over will increasingly cause mass disruption and havoc. With the poles and Greenland melting faster than scientists in their wildest imagination could predict, once they get going, increases in sea level rise will be unbelievable!!
- Why all those ranches in NZ are being bought up by the super-wealthy.. for their 'bolt-holes.'
- The impact climate change will have on the global economy by virtue of the fact most of the world’s financial centers and wealthiest cities are adjacent to oceans that would be impacted by rising sea levels is beyond imagining.
- A Runaway Chain Reaction Under The Greenland Ice Sheet Is Threatening Its Collapse
- WE ARE BEING SOUNDLY WARNED !!!

DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT - 'OUR' GOVERNMENT -_HUMAN RIGHTS
We're on the cusp with this one.. and once again, it's self-inflicted agony. And with only a quarter of the population unwittingly pulling the trigger on everyone.. (including themselves).
We're in a very precarious situation:
- a majority of current leadership is under direct control of oligarchs...
- with a majority of the population in considerable disagreement with most all current government policies and/or proposals.
- do we return to democracy.. or follow the current trend towards 'authoritarian-oligarchy.'.. or worse!!..
- "The
man repeatedly proves he has no concept of public service. Or America."

this. How many hints do we need that he wants to be a dictator?"
..he might say many outrageous things.. and in his mind there's always that weird-warped, extremely dangerous underlying belief system.. - THIS... is what we SHOULD be doing !!! We DON"T WANT our infrastructure to be privatized !!! "Wall Street billionaires will be asked to help pay for improving our nation's roads, bridges, and tunnels, instead of lining their pockets through privatized Trump Tolls."
There's hardly a day goes by I don't shake my head saying to myself.. I cannot believe we have done this to ourselves.. how is this madman POTUS!!!

A concern for the common good – keeping the common good in mind – is a moral attitude. It recognizes that we’re all in it together. CAPITALISM - CONSUMERISM
We can't keep chewing up resources world-wide at present rates.. NOT even close to them.. we're running out of some already. We are 5% of the world's population, and every one of the seven and a half BILLION people on the planet want our 'lifestyle.'
You don't need to be very in-tune to dope this one out.
TERRORISM
We're amplifying this issue by our direct hand in so many different wars all over the globe.
- We now have 'boots-on-the-ground' in 150+ countries.. you read that right !! .. (How many countries in total are there??)
...what would be your thinkin about the U.S. being one of the 'good-guys.'
Much is now working in terrorists' favor.. their message craves conflict.. and our present system of government is now all to willing to give it to them in spades.
Talk about the endless ramifications of 'Blowback-War.'
- It was bin-Laden’s genius... for a mere $400-500K ...
- goading Washington into spending TRILLIONS of dollars ..across significant parts of the Islamic world fighting conflict after conflict...
- all of which only creates yet more rubble, and terror outfits..
- and refugees ..who, in turn, helped fuel yet more..
- right-wing populist movements from Europe to DJT’s America.
- The Business of America... War today is Big-Profitable-Business !! ..And ALL of us are funding it.. that has to STOP !!
ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE - 6TH MASS EXTINCTION
Life on Earth is suffering... badly!!

- The guys in charge totally knew what was happening with climate decades ago.. and they chose GREED !! ..in doing so.. they perpetrated the 'WORST-CRIME-IN-HISTORY'..!!!!
- This ain't goin away.. and can't be hidden & ignored much longer.. the 6th MASS-EXTINCTION!!
- Mother-Earth - 'GAIA'.. can withstand anything. We've lasted in geological time what amounts to a grain of sand. All of GAIA is intertwined.. as are all crisis issues. Any 'one' cannot be singled out for solution.. earth systems do not react that way.
The kids & grand-kids might not yet fully understand how badly they're being screwed, but they surely will soon enough.
Pollution of all types in this country (and around the world) is reaching exceedingly dangerous levels:
- Groundwater Monitoring Reveals Widespread Radioactivity at Duke Energy Coal Plants.. Data shows high levels of radioactivity at 11 of 18 plants. Drinking water of more than half the population of the country is radioactive enough to increase the risk of cancer. Highest levels of radioactivity were found at Duke Energy’s Asheville Power Plant, with levels of radium in groundwater 38 times what EPA considers safe for drinking water. Even in the face of these findings..the current EPA has just released revisions showing its intent to cripple the very rule that requires this sampling and the release of these data.
- Plastic is destroying our world... 8.3 BILLION TONS.. of which 6.3 Billion has already become trash, with almost 80% in landfills or out in the environment. As a young kid, packaging was paper bags, cardboard boxes, wood, and glass... then beginning in the '50's plastic exploded onto the scene.. and has not let up one bit since. We are choking our planet in plastic... polluting our waterways, and endangering marine life and the natural environment. Even the most casual news consumer has probably encountered reports about the ENORMOUS garbage patches out in center of all the oceans.
- ".. tiny crustaceans known as krill – the basis for many of the ocean's food webs – can digest microplastics into even smaller fragments.... the plastic pollution threat, with the implication that biological fragmentation of microplastics to nanoplastics is likely widespread within most ecosystems"
- Less well-known is what is fueling this plastics binge: FRACKING!!. In less than a decade, tens of billions of dollars have been invested in creating new manufacturing sites around the world to turn fossil fuels into resin pellets used to manufacture plastic products. The companies profiting off this surge in plastics are contributing to a growing climate crisis while generating mountains of plastic garbage. While plastic junk floating in the oceans gets the headlines, the truth is the entire business model wreaks havoc on communities and the planet—from the fracking wells in Pennsylvania, and pipelines carrying materials in the U.S., to air pollution from petrochemical plants producing plastics in the U.K. Fracking is another giant 'Pandora's Box'.. as dangerous and harmful to people and the planet as Nuclear Energy.
- Seven years later, the nuclear disaster at Fukushima remains... "..a disaster of unseen proportions." "The radiation leaks coupled with the waste from the plant stored in an “inappropriate” way in tanks could have global consequences… “This can get problematic anytime, if it contaminates the ocean there is no local contamination. Oceans are global, so anything that goes into the ocean goes to everyone.” “It needs to be clear this problem is NOT gone, this is not just a local problem. It’s a very MAJOR thing!!” We really have little clue how to deal with nuclear adequately.. we should rapidly abandon it, until we are capable of handling its 'full-cycle.'!!.. (we're not now even close!!)

INEQUALITY - GREED - FINANCIAL MELTDOWN
The 99.0000%-whatever are 'getting-by'.. some LOTS better than others..
- and having to live with the other .01%+/- that are taking in EVERYTHING.. while giving back less..and less..and less, to keep government and society functioning properly!!!
- Greed now rules most all major decisions by large corporations and the super-wealthy.. involving the entire society.
- For nearly a decade, companies have taken advantage of extremely cheap money set by the Fed and foreign central banks trying to pump up sluggish growth.
- Washington is now paving the way for the next financial meltdown. Members of both parties are coming together to roll back financial rules, during the 10th anniversary of the biggest banking crisis in nearly a century. Citi has been pressing lawmakers to loosen financial legislation even further, ensuring they can take advantage of reduced leverage and ramp up risk. “Citi is making a very aggressive effort,” “It’s a game changer and that’s why they’re pushing hard.” ...to make 'fixes' to the landmark Wall Street reform law, Dodd-Frank. The change would allow virtually any big bank to take advantage of the new rule. And it’s all happening with virtually NO media attention whatsoever.
- "We need to ask the hard questions that the corporate media fails to ask: who owns America, and who has the political power? Why, in the richest country in the history of the world are so many Americans living in poverty?"
"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."
DRUGS - PRISONS
The pharmaceutical industry has made billions of dollars through the production, dissemination and misuse of opioids for pain management.
- There were more than 42K opioid overdose deaths in 2016 -- an average of 115 deaths a day. An estimated 2.1 million Americans have an opioid use disorder. A significant market has developed through both the legal and illegal production and distribution of these drugs.
Kratom, a plant indigenous to Southeast Asia has been utilized for millennia to treat pain-illness, and improve mood, among other uses... has become increasingly popular in the US, with an estimated 5 million users. It's become particularly popular among people trying to get off prescription and non-prescription opioids, as well as those who suffer from chronic pain. The push to ban it now is economic, not medical. Big Pharma..the Prison-Industrial-System.. and Rehabilitation Industries do not want their profits affected, and so are fighting hard for the Kratom ban.
The danger today is not Kratom, but a social system that criminalizes the only means millions of people have to cope.
NO benefits/ pensions..NO overtime...forbidden to organize & strike...must show up on-time..NO sick days/ vacations.. cannot complain about working conditions/ safety hazards. If disobedient, or attempt to protest pitiful wages, they lose their jobs and can be sent to isolation cells (solitary confinement). Roughly 1 million prisoners working for corporations/ government industries in the American prison system are models for what the corporate state expects us all to become. Corporations have NO intention of permitting prison reforms that would reduce size of their bonded workforce. In fact, they are seeking to replicate these conditions throughout the society.
ENERGY - FOSSIL FUELS
This is as important as climate, and mass species-extinction, for it is so tied together with these other issues.
If we have not already reached and gone over 'the edge'.. we're very close to that apocalyptic time.. and advancing at a rate of speed that has hardly slowed one bit since the dawn of the industrial revolution. Today, it takes about one barrel of conventional U.S. oil to produce the equivalent of nine barrels, or 378 gallons of gasoline. When it comes to shale oil.. it's a loss.. one barrel produces less than five (the loss point).
And have been resisting, trying to kill-off all the ones would get us longevity.. renewable-energy. When the guys in charge first knew 40 years ago about ACD, had they gone huge into alternate-energy, they'd be even wildly richer than they are today... and it would have been sustainable.. infinite sources of energy!!
- They could have saved the world and been heroes. Instead, it forever will remain the most costly/short-sighted/greedy decision humankind has EVER made... ultimately forcing humanity to an early exit.
MASS MIGRATION
All these peoples do not readily 'choose' to leave their homes & homeland!!
They'll be ten of millions.. then hundreds of millions of migrants.. with no end in sight.
- We are now starting to enter the era of millions of people in forced-migration, for a whole host of reasons (wars-famine-climate).
- Mass-migration will completely transform every country on the entire planet. The stresses and issues will be unimaginable and appear insurmountable.
If We Want to Support Refugees, We Need To End the Wars That Create Them. The sanctuary movement needs an anti-war voice. With sanctuary should come a renewed commitment to challenging the U.S. foreign policies that actually displace people... the U.S. role in bombing people’s homes, arming rebel groups or otherwise intervening in violent conflicts—among other acts that create refugees.
GUNS - 2nd AMMENDMENT
Right now issues dealing with them are a major category:
- In the past decade 280,000 Americans have been killed by guns, along with tens of thousands injured.. (remember, Vegas had nearly 10x the number injured than killed.) Automatic assault weapons MUST be banned!!
- "Republicans are not going to do anything on gun control." If we are not able to have our leadership begin bending to the will of the people on this massively critical, no-brainer issue.. than all the others are going to be losing propositions as well.
- Suggesting teachers be armed and turned into potential instruments of violence ..extends and normalizes the prison as a model for schools and the increasing expansion of the school-to-prison pipeline. "The teacher will become an armed representative of the state, with the legal right to take someone's life." "The [political] right does not imagine teachers wielding weapons so much as weapons remaking teachers.... shifting the discourse and changing the boundaries of what is deemed acceptable in civil society." The proposal is not about helping students, but turning the student-teacher relationship from one of trust and respect into one of violence. Making teachers 'armed-guards' is totally counterproductive public policy..
- Right now GOP PAC money is preventing much needed legislation from even being proposed & considered, much less enacted...

GOVERNMENT-IN-CHAOS
When
first starting to write this post, did not have intention of including
this as a 'crisis.' But in the course of the last year.. and in the
course of putting together this recap.. it has become quite evident.. it is a
very grave and dangerous crisis..(of leadership).
The chaos and corruption are getting worse and there's no end in sight. And when considering how serious all the other major crisis are.. this only makes them all THAT MUCH MORE INCREDIBLY WORSE!!!

- evident for quite some time things were NOT going to turn around and magically get better. "Even by Trumpian standards, the chaos and the unraveling at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue are a stunning -- and recurring -- problem."
- it's well past time that ALL those still supporting him... STOP !! And start understanding and admitting the very serious harm that is being done to the country.. and it could in his hands get MUCH, MUCH WORSE !!
- and that it is also well past time for him to be removed from office.
All this mayhem really falls squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats. They once had on the ticket, while not the most perfect of candidates (none ever are or will be).. but he was the embodiment of what this country needed at this precise point in history (and he would have won!).. and they got totally GOP stupid, and royally fucked it all up!!
God do we desperately need another major political party.

.. what we appear incapable of doing is knocking any of the items off the list..
..right now there's a bakers-dozen-plus, and Lord that sure is enough.. but if history teaches us anything, man is not capable (especially at this present moment) of not adding more items to this apocalyptic list..
..and there must be a point when we get all ages up-to-speed-educated & intensely involved in all these issues.. maybe now's gotta be that time..
.. it's not just about guns... it's WAY-MORE-BIGGER than that !!!!
..believe me.. we'd give every dime owned to be wrong on all or any of this..
..but, the obvious is just that.
..as for awareness:
~never stop learning..obtaining knowledge is so different today...
~was not THAT long ago, you could come home.. turn on the TV and watch the 'news'.. the 'actual' news.. or read the paper for in-depth print reporting.
~now.. you have to research to locate the 'actual' news..
~there-in lies the problem & reward... you spend time... you get real-knowledge.. no BS!!
