Time Bomb - US Nuke Power Plants

Having the condo in Briarcliff Manor, New York, we would many times go for rides along the Hudson River, up route 9, passing the Indian Point reactor up in Buchanan, New York... it was always a very uneasy feeling.

Having this massive nuclear plant only 10 miles from where we lived was something we never could get used to.
It's just unimaginable to think of what could happen should something go wrong.

10 miles from Briarcliff Manor to Indian Point... how close are you?

And storing 71,000 metric tonnes (and growing) of spent fuel rods at these plants across the country is something that can only lead to disaster.
With the inherent dangers for massive devastation in nuke plants, odds are, we're gonna loose somewhere sometime... for when it comes to public safety, money wins out every time.

With over 400 nuclear reactors on the planet at the moment (more being planned), what we've seen in Russia and now in Japan is only going to continue to happen... and get worse. It's a technology we have not mastered, and it has, and is going to continue to do great harm.

Our arrogance leaves us believing we are in control. But it obvious from the way recent disasters have been dealt with on numerous levels that cannot be farther from the truth... and any assurances to the contrary must be rejected.
This is an all consuming force beyond our current capabilities to deal with... one that never should have been released from Pandora's box.
